Hi, and welcome to Sew Blue Thread. My name is Marsha, the one who writes the patterns and then sews them together. There was a time, about 2 years ago, when I had a ‘nudge’ to write patterns.
After learning the craft of quilting, the patterns are what grabbed me the most. My first official quilt block pattern was Lobster Time. Getting the look ‘right’ and maths correct, was a lot of fun.
Weeks later, I remember how, I could not stop writing the ‘Crabby Crab‘ pattern #018, ’til I had worked out the crab legs formula. Sitting in the car while my husband was driving, I scribbled away in the notepad.
One of the first few patterns I made was the pattern #002 Prawns and Shrimps quilt block which was particularly detailed above the nose/eye section.
Since then, I’m still writing patterns. When inspired by something, I find a spare 10 minutes here or there, pull out the notepad and write another pattern, or finish writing a pattern am working on.
Now, 4 notepads later, I am still writing quilt block patterns. About 2 months ago, I had just finished quilting up the last pattern of the first notepad. I have started on the 2nd notepad now.
I’ve been hooked on writing patterns and for me, it’s definitely relaxing, and it becomes a mental challenge to get it right. I am not sure how many patterns I have written till now, nevertheless, have more than enough to keep me sewing for a while.
Here is the latest pattern all sewn up, called ‘Frame’. This is a super big size 18.5″x 18.5″, and fairly straightforward to sew together. ‘Frame’ is pattern #032 and requires 3 colour fabrics in total. Any colour combo will make this pattern work fine.
Watch out for up and coming patterns. I have made a new surprise pattern coming soon after taking inspiration from a recent trip our family took.
So until next time,
Happy Sewing.
Marsha.
