New pattern, ‘Centre Surprise’

Hi and welcome to Sew Blue Thread.

Recently, I have taken up crocheting. Since learning at a young age from my mum (who spent hours and hours crocheting Dutch window borders), have never lost the knack of basic crocheting. Growing up, the windows in the house were decorated throughout with beautiful white cotton crochet borders. Even the sheets on the beds were decorated with beautiful Dutch crocheting. My crocheting has never come close to fancy, however, the stitches are even, and in my opinion, that the main thing.  This time, it had never been my intention to actually make a crocheted item, but to just have a go for ‘old times sake’.  I’ve come to the conclusion, it makes an excellent calming activity, besides ‘sewing’ of course.  But that goes without saying.

Another project, that has been on the go, is a new quilt block pattern. This pattern as an unfinished quilt block is a 12.5″ square, and is charm pack friendly.

The new pattern ‘Centre Surprise‘, features a centre frame,  perfect to give the block some pop! It would depend on what fabric, and colour combo that were used, as to how to ‘show off’ the centre section. Centre Surprise pattern is straightforward and is a good old fashioned quilt piecing project. No English Paper Piecing at all!

I loved how quick this block came together, from beginning to end.  It’s an excellent one for a confident beginner quilter.  The pattern can be found in the link below.

What fabrics would you use in the centre?

So until next time…

Happy sewing
