Hi, and welcome to my blog.
Today, I want to share with you a new pattern. ‘Rolling Waves’ pattern, has been in the design stage for a while now, and finally, it can be revealed. It is a fairly simple pattern, and can be done by a beginner quilter, so I thought you might like one to try out for yourselves.
I chose 5 dark blue fat quarters, and 1 light blue fat quarter. There are 2 fat quarters (dark blue) from Everything Blue II fabrics for clothworks.com. The rest are stashfabrics.
The blocks were stitched and pressed, so that they were ready for assembling into a table topper.
Sashing was added, as well as the batting, and backing fabric. The quilt was then top stitched.
Lastly the quilt needed trimming off the sides.
I hand stitched the binding, to give the end result here.
The Rolling Waves table topper measures 28 1/2 ” x 28 1/2 “.
Oh, and here’s a picture with the backing fabric. Not very ocean-y, but it was blue, and just seemed to work.
The pattern is called ‘Rolling Waves’. Like the waves on the ocean, rolling on the shore, this pattern gives the appearance of doing just that. I chose a lovely dark blue to go around the outside, with light blue in the middle, because it speaks of freshness, boldness, and simplicity all in one.
If you would like this free quilt pattern, you can click on the link below. “Rolling Waves” PDF pattern is simple, has alot of pictures to guide step by step, as well as written instructions. All the fabric dimensions are clearly labeled in the pattern, and all it takes is a couple of fat quarters/layer cake squares or charm pack squares, and you’re on your way.
Just a tip, when choosing fabric of a single colour, make sure you have an uneven amount of fabric in your bundle choice. An example is, that I have chosen 5 matching dark blue fabrics to complete each block. I could have chosen 3, or 7. This is compositionally better than an even number of matching fabrics in a bundle choice. Hope this makes sense. Email me if you’re still confused. The finished block ‘look’ is just that little bit more special.
Send me a photo of your finished quilt table topper; and until next time,
have fun sewing.
Marsha.
